Name/Nicknames: Mae, Mae-Mae
My Story: Mae was adopted into a fabulous home through Pet Haven in 2006. Unfortunately, she had to return to our care because her owner became seriously ill. Currently, she is in a loving foster home where she gets in plenty of TLC as well as crucial naptime. Mae is on the very shy side. She doesn’t trust people easily, which means she will need someone with both dog experience and a giant stock of patience. The good news is, once Mae does trust you, you are golden. She tends to prefer women to men, but was thoroughly enamored of her previous owner and his wife. Hobbies: The aforementioned napping is among Mae’s favorite activities. She likes sitting out in the yard and the occasional walk. Commands/Tricks: Mae is a smart girl and knows how to sit as well as sit up. She attended beginner’s obedience at AllBreed Obedience to develop some structure and confidence, and to help encourage socialization with both dogs and people. Crate / Potty Trained:Fully potty trained and crate trained. Fun Things I Enjoy:Walks, scoping out birds and squirrels in the back yard. Activity Level: Low, Mae really doesn’t need much. She likes her treats and pets of praise. She also needs someone to understand that she is a very, very shy girl and needs a little extra understanding. But beyond that, she’s very laid back and good to go! Socialization/Who I Currently Live With: Mae’s former owners were an older couple who treated her like a queen. They were very upset to have to give their precious Mae up, as she was so much a part of their family. She was the only dog and a constant and loving companion to them both. Now she lives, once more, with the woman who fostered her back in 2006 and the woman's resident dogs. Mae has come far and has learned to live a full and happy life. My Ideal Family:Mae is a very shy girl who will do better in a quiet, calm, adults-only home. Dog experience is a must as is a fenced yard. Mae does like the sound of her own voice, which makes a townhouse or apartment not the best fit. One caveat on this, she is quiet about 98% of the time. Barking is just Mae’s way of letting you know when she wants something. She’s currently on anti-anxiety medication to help her cope with life in general and should remain on it for the rest of her life. Mae will be attending Pet Haven's medium/large size dog adoption events and her adoption fee is $200 (cash or check only) and includes spay/neuter, heartworm check, current vaccinations, and microchip and registration. Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 60-mile radius of the Twin Cities area.
